Summer on the Long Island Sound has been as great as it… sounds 😝

It was vibes alright — thanks to all the people who made it magical! ✨ We really enjoyed the slow cruiser, live aboard and “island life” summer up here near NYC… who would have thought?!

Hermes is now on the hard, prepping for her 8th season back in the Caribbean 😱 She will again be available for team racing charters, bareboat cruising charters and our biannual offshore training passages! ⛵️ 🌊

🍀 Good luck to all of our friends on the East Coast wrapping up their offshore racing season with the Stamford Vineyard Race this weekend. Any Ocean Racers alumni out racing??

Congratulations to the @holdfastoceanracing team on their great result for their first ocean race: @bermudarace

The team finished 6th in class (GH1), 11th in division, and first of all @oakcliffsail Farr40s! 🏆

Even more impressive, the team is a mixed youth Canadian team, with many women in leadership positions. Morgen was happy to be able to help support this team as their coach to achieve the big goal that they’ve been working towards all year.

Go give the team some love and congrats 🇨🇦 ❤️ They pushed hard for this!! 💪

Congratulations to this legendary crew, who timed their arrival into NYC perfectly for golden hour 👌

It was an absolutely stellar entrance into NY Harbor last night. Double slotted with the code 0 (aka Abe Fr0man), full sail and absolutely sending it through the Verrazano!!

You can tell by these smiling faces that it was another offshore trip for the books! Two of the crew are returners: Dave has now completed the full “nomad” journey — Antigua-Bermuda (2019) and Bermuda-NYC (2024). And Chris went from all-women crew with us on WOW 2020 to a mixed crew with these fun guys — and she always gels well with any crew on Hermes! 🤩

Two of the crew (3 if you count Morgen as an honorary NYer) are local and arriving into their city via sail was truly a bucket-list experience. We are absolutely delighted to be back in NYC for the season, with a full month of sailing adventures still ahead!

All was calm in Bermuda before the crew left to sail to NYC… and it’s been anything but at sea 🌊

It was a baptism by fire this weekend for the first few days offshore, first power reaching in 20 knots, then last night was a bumpy ride in 20-25 kts SW. The front passed Hermes this morning, leaving little wind with a sloppy residual sea state today — and no respite for the seasick 🤢

The next hurdle: the Gulf Stream. While it would have been a wild ride with the southwesterly coming through with the notorious current, now with the major front past, the Gulf Stream will also be a mixed bag of nautical chaos — so we will wait to hear from the crew how it goes! Type 2 fun all the way 😜

We left a week ago and thought we’d have starlink to update you offshore… but this passage was destined to be an old-school off-the-grid trip. So instead of attempting to simultaneously work and sail Hermes to Bermuda, we had to unplug and embrace nothing but pure blue ocean (and the few podcasts we remembered to download before leaving).

The change of sailing seasons is always bittersweet. We leave one place just when we finally feel like we’ve settled in at home… but it’s when the island starts to feel a little sleepy, where weekends are no longer reserved for working or regattas — that’s the sign it’s time to move again.

There’s no settling in for nomads. The season clearly changed, and we almost waited too long! We left an empty Simpson Bay to start heading north, and the summer heat was a sure sign it was finally time to go.

Spoiler alert: we made it to Bermuda 🇧🇲 And a new crew with some familiar faces are also arriving in Bermuda today to head off on an epic ocean adventure — our Bermuda-NYC offshore training passage!

There’s nothing more rewarding than sailing into NYC after an intensive ocean and Gulf Stream crossing as the sun sets and the iconic city skyline begins to reveal itself over the horizon 🌆

The sun’s warm glow is soon replaced by the city’s growing aura. At night, it’s like a beacon… after days at sea with nothing but blue, the city appears as a magical oasis. 🤩

The Verrazano bridge serves as the unofficial finish line. As you watch the mast cross under, you hold your breath despite knowing there’s plenty of air clearance… but maybe it’s just the city taking your breath away 🌉

Then the procession up the Hudson River is a victory lap, as your movements on deck are illuminated by the city glow. Finally, the Statue of Liberty serves as your personal welcoming committee. 🗽

Is it warm up north yet?! We’re wrapping up another epic sailing season here in the Caribbean… meaning it is soon time to head North — and for you to join us offshore!

This photo was taken 2 years ago, sailing into NYC on what we thought would be our last time on Hermes. Well the universe had other plans for us all, and we are so happy to still be sailing our beloved Pogo 12.50 — and that you can still join us on more adventures!

It was still a bit chilly after we crossed the infamous Gulf Stream, but the pink sunset over the growing NYC skyline absolutely fired up the entire crew 🌇 I remember that Gulf Stream crossing was one for the books (see my glasses still smudged from the pummeling waves) but it made our calm entry into NYC all the more magical and deserved.

It’s a bit of an out of body experience, Meg being onboard the Media boat that took this photo, and Morgen being responsible for all of the marks that Hermes will race around this weekend ⛵️ 🏝️

So who is on Hermes then?! Our OG COR crew @dagenaisgaw is skippering and we have a charter crew from Texas who came down to enjoy some Serious Fun! 🤩

Morgen is currently racing in the home-grown Diam24 fleet in St Maarten, which just keeps leveling up!! 💪

Morgen first spotted these trimaran pocket-rockets when racing on a VO70 in the 2022 @stmaartenheinekenregatta … seeing these 24 ft multihulls keep pace with ocean racing machines!

No, he’s not giving up on monohulls, but Morgen is certainly enjoying the new challenge and racing in this hyper-competitive fleet on our home island of St. Maarten.
