NYC-Bermuda Offshore Training Passage

650 NM |  October 26 - November 1, 2024

Looking to gain miles and confidence offshore? Get onboard our Pogo 12.50, Hermes, on an ocean training passage perfect for our offshore racer-cruiser!

After our safety briefing and orientation with the crew, we will depart from New York City with the favorable tides for a picture-perfect beginning our 650 NM true blue-water passage to Bermuda. Our journey begins with coastal navigation skills, as we navigate our first few miles through one of the busiest ports in the world: NY Harbor. Sail past the Statue of Liberty and under the iconic Verrazano Bridge as the NYC skyline slowly disappears behind us as we head out to the Atlantic Ocean.

Once we are out of the Harbor, you'll meet the open ocean and soon enough: the Gulf Stream. We'll check the weather and current for our ideal Stream crossing point, then it should be smooth sailing until Bermuda!

The trip is over 650 NM as the crow flies, but weather and the infamous Gulf Stream will dictate our path. We've budgeted 6 days for this journey, hopefully giving you enough time to enjoy a little bit of beautiful Bermuda when we arrive. Of course total time depends on weather, but this trip can often be completed in 4-5 days with good breeze -- and great fun!

Our offshore training passages are ideal for those looking to gain offshore miles or train for an offshore race (like the Newport-Bermuda race!). This trip is a non-stop journey from NYC to St George, Bermuda, which should take us less than a week, so come prepared for the long-haul. All food, drinks (non-alcoholic!), safety equipment and offshore training are included in your crew fees.

Once we arrive in Bermuda, expect to celebrate your great accomplishment with a well-earned Rum Swizzle and some delicious food by the turquoise water. This offshore adventure is great for singles, couples or friends. No prior offshore experience necessary, but a solid sailing foundation is required.
