Ocean Training Passage
Bermuda - NYC
June 7-14, 2024
Join Ocean Racers crew for a true ocean passage on our Pogo 12.50, Hermes! Our sixth annual blue water sailing adventure takes crew on a journey across the Atlantic Ocean, from the crystal clear waters of Bermuda to the big city - NYC.
The journey is a great introduction to all aspects of offshore sailing. Expect to cover 600+ NM with a variety of conditions and sea states as you venture to cross the Gulf Stream. After this rite-of-passage, we will head towards the city glow and conclude at Liberty Landing Marina in Jersey City.
Crew will arrive in Bermuda for boat and safety orientation on Saturday, June 7th. When the weather is right and the crew is ready, we will depart for NYC! All crew will serve in rotating watches and actively participate in life onboard. Perfect your driving at night, learn navigation tips and aids for a safe and efficient passage at sea. Get to know the advanced weather routing software, Expedition, designed and used by Volvo Ocean Racers.
This ocean passage is ideal for those looking to go offshore for the first time or sailors looking to log some ocean miles on an ocean race boat. While this is great practice for ocean races like Newport-Bermuda, this passage is not a race -- so focus is placed on training and allowing all crew to try different positions and tasks onboard. No night sailing or prior offshore experience necessary, a solid sailing foundation is required.
